Welcome United
Church Cemetery
Welcome Cemetery is situated on lot 11, concession 2, about 1.5 km south of Hope United Church. Two acres of land was purchased by the Welcome Bible Christian Church congregation from Jeremiah Parker in 1868, although burials had occurred prior. The earliest in the records was for Mary Jacob Giles, the two-year-old daughter of John and Mary (Jacobs), who passed away 12 December 1849.
A second land purchase in 1884 allowed for an expansion to the present size of seven acres. This cemetery is part of the Port Hope municipal cemetery system.
The cemetery is divided into sections as shown on the lot map. The original owners of the older Sections A/B can be found here. The maps of the more recent Sections C/D are not shown, owing to privacy concerns.
In 2017, when the Town took over the care and maintenance of Welcome Cemetery, we were faced with combining three separate burial spreadsheets. The 2020 version can be viewed here. Entries after 2020 continue to by managed by the Municipality.
